Get to know Jason

Jason Marbutt will give a fair and impartial hearing to all who appear before him, respect the right of every citizen, treat everyone with dignity, and follow the law to secure justice in every case.
Jason Marbutt is a Senior Assistant District Attorney with the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, Adjunct Professor at Emory School of Law, Chairman of the Cobb Elder Abuse Task Force (CEATF), coach for the Walton High School Mock Trial Team, soccer coach, former softball coach, former wrestling coach, father of 3, and a former high school and elementary school teacher. He taught high school at the Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and elementary school as part of Teach for America in Newark,
New Jersey.
 
In 2018, he founded and organized the Justice for Elderly and Disabled Individuals Multidisciplinary Team (J.E.D.I. MDT), a group effort of numerous agencies serving elderly and disabled individuals in Cobb County. The team calls him “Yoda.” He has been a prosecutor for 15 years, handling thousands of cases ranging from DUIs to murder. His current specialty is white collar crime, public integrity, and elder abuse. He has extensive experience with the Georgia RICO Statute, and he has been the primary drafter of numerous pieces of legislation amending Georgia’s laws in relation to abuse of the elderly and disabled.

He is considered a subject matter expert in both white collar crime and elder abuse for agencies and other prosecution offices around the State. He has lectured nationally at the National Institute for the Prosecution of Elder Abuse (NIPEA). In February of 2017, both the Georgia House and Senate passed resolutions honoring Mr. Marbutt for his work protecting the elderly and disabled. He is the 2018 Cobb Assistant District Attorney of the Year. 

Jason was born in Austell, GA and now resides in Cobb County with his wife, Olivia, and their three children. He has a BA in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Emory School of Law. His wife is also an attorney, specializing in intellectual property litigation.
